Project
Our task was to research protein synthesis and the protein that is related to our degenerative disease. The disease that we chose to research was Kuru, a disease that is caused by the consumption of human brains and leads to the deterioration of the brain of the subject. In order to display the information we gathered, we created two posters (one for info on Kuru and one two display the structure and info of the protein). Our teammate, Sarah, created a model of a prion and a prion that leads to Kuru.

Protein Synthesis
At first the DNA goes through a stage called transcription. In transcription, the polymerase causes the double helix of the DNA to split into two pieces. Then mRNA is created to match the pieces. Finally, this newly formed mRNA leaves and attaches to the ribosome. Next the mRNA is processed and signal to the amino acids to start translation. The tRNA and the mRNA meet and attach in one of the sections of the ribosome called "A". Then, the tRNA creates and continues a chain of amino acids in the "P" section. Finally the chain detaches from the ribosome and this chain is called a polypeptide chain. The chain finally goes into the cytoplasm. Then it travels to the rough endoplasmic reticulum and the primary amino acids stay in the cytoplasm. The secondary form an alpha helix and the tertiary forms into the structure.

Reflection
Overall, the project went pretty well. We were able to create and format two posters that gave a good amount
