Extinction Project:
In this project we had to research an endangered animal and present it in some kind of informative way. Our group decided to make a slide show about a species called the Colombian Basin Pygmy Rabbit. But we didn't stop there. We went the extra mile and made a 7 minute video on deforestation and these cute creatures. These can be found directly below...
Key Terms
Mutation- the changing of the structure of a gene, resulting in a variant form that may be transmitted to subsequent generations, caused by the alteration of single base units in DNA
Evolution- the process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the earth
Species- a group of living organisms consisting of similar individuals capable of exchanging genes or interbreeding
gene flow- gene flow is the transfer of genetic variation from one population to another
adaptations- a change or the process of change by which an organism or species becomes better suited to its environment.
non-random mating- Nonrandom mating occurs when the probability that two individuals in a population will mate is not the same for all possible pairs of individuals.
genetic drift- variation in the relative frequency of different genotypes in a small population
small population- when a species begins and it only has a small population one random trait in one of the few species will become a huge part of the species as they breed and increase.
allopatric speciation- speciation by geographic isolation
sympatric speciation- Sympatric speciation is the process through which new species evolve from a single ancestral species while inhabiting the same geographic region.

Reflection
Overall the project went well. We had good ideas that benefited the overall goal of the group. At one point, we had to restart our project because everyone decided that we should make a video in the style of Bill Nye. Using problem solving and will, we solved the problem and were one of the first groups to finish. In the video, not a lot of material was covered. At the start we had a legitimate script, but there was more of a focus on the comedy side of the project than there was on the actual education aspect. In the end, we produced a good video and a fire beat for the music video at the end of the video. Below I have included a good video on these creatures. It discusses the "exodus" of these lil guys. My favorite part is minute 19:18 were they discuss the vegetation surveys.
